Read a letter from ESO’s Game Director, Nick Giacomini, on the future of the game on macOS.

Dear ESO Players,

As you may know, Apple intends to drop support for Intel Binaries in an upcoming version of macOS. As it is today, The Elder Scrolls Online cannot function without that Intel Binary support. However, we know that we have many Mac players, and we are committed to ensuring they can continue playing on macOS 28 and beyond.

That’s why I am very pleased to announce that ESO is receiving a native Apple Silicon client. ARM Macs will become an officially supported platform. We will also be adding as many performance optimizations as we can to take advantage of Apple Silicon’s new capabilities, and we plan for all these exciting changes to arrive in the summer of 2027.

We expect to update the minimum system requirements for Macs when the new client is released, and we will assess if some older Intel Macs are no longer officially supported. And while the newest Intel Macs will be supported for now, we will eventually have to phase out Intel Macs entirely.

We are immensely grateful to all our players who have joined us over the years, and Mac players have been a huge part of that journey. I look forward to seeing you in Tamriel in 2027 and beyond!

Nick
